Title: Person-Centered, Trauma Informed training: Evaluating the impact of trauma on those who survive it and their generational counterparts

Irit Felsen, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist who received her pre-doctoral and post-doctoral training at the Yale Psychiatric Institute of Yale University. She holds a Ph.D. in Psychology from Hamburg University in Germany, as well as an M.A. in Clinical Psychology from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Israel, and an Honors B.A. in Psychology from Haifa University. Irit has worked in private practice since 1994 and has served as a clinical specialist providing Trauma Intervention for a national network of crisis care. She has also served as a member of the Yale Trauma Study Group in the Genocide Studies Program, as well as on the faculty at Ohel Institute for Professional training in Brooklyn, New York. Currently, Irit is teaching a graduate level psychology course at the Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology at Yeshiva University. Irit has also served as Clinical Specialist and Coordinator of Holocaust Services at Jewish Family Services of MetroWest, and has experience working with Emergency Psychiatric Services and is a State Certified Mental Health Screener.

Goals of Irit’s trauma-training include:

·         Educate professionals about trauma and its effects on those who survive it

·         Address generational impacts of trauma

·         Demonstrate the effects of trauma within oppressed populations

·         Guidance for working with survivors of trauma

A therapeutic group that focuses on promoting recovery and helping individuals gain a deeper understanding of its roots, causes and conditions. Through the process of recovery, there is a need to better understand ourselves and how we relate to others. In addition to gaining the support of others, we will explore how to navigate life’s challenges with a specific emphasis on boundary setting and adopting new ways of thinking.

Who: Open to anyone who wants support through his or her own recovery process.

When: Thursdays from 6 - 7 pm

Cost: $35 per session (we have financial assistance for those who qualify)

Whether you are taking care of a spouse, parent, other family member, loved one, friend, or neighbor, we hope that this group will provide you with a safe place to share your thoughts and feelings and help you to develop a network of support through an exchange of information and experiences.

This is an open and free group.

Starting Over Divorce Group (Monday, Nov 13, 2017 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm)

Starting Over is a Divorce Support Group for men and women who are separated or divorced. Issues discussed are legal, communication, letting go, parenting, rejection, dating and adjusting to differences. Meetings are at JFCS the second and last Monday at 6:00-8:00 pm. Helen Kotler, Ph. Caregiver Support Group - Dunwoody (Tuesday, Nov 14, 2017 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm)

This is an open group for caregivers who are caring for family members. We hope to provide a safe and supportive place for caregivers in similar situations to come together to share stories and resources and to support one another. There is no fee to attend this group. It is requested that first time attendees contact Debbi Dooley before attending the group.

Daffodil Planting at JF&CS (Sunday, Nov 19, 2017 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm)

Come help prep the ground and plant daffodils in remembrance of those who perished in the Holocaust. Volunteers will prep the soil for planting and then help Holocaust survivors plant the daffodil bulbs.

FITS Food Sort in the Kosher Food Pantry (Sunday, Nov 19, 2017 2:30 pm - 4:00 pm)

Bring your little one's to help sort much needed goods at JF&CS Kosher Food Pantry. Last year the food pantry provided more than 13,000 lbs of food for those in need.
